week 11 - Remuneration Presentation

Week 11 - Remuneration Presentation

Group 1: The Last Supremist Sculpture (Joshua Nicholson, Phillip Huxtable)

Content:
- what is remuneration and how does it affect us
- remuneration in design industry (architecture & construction wages) and the meaning of it
- the factors that affect the remuneration in architecture
- main ways to be employed: work for a business & freelance
- advantages and disadvantages of two ways to be employed
- differences in remuneration of two types of emplyment
- the remuneration related to their project

Feedback & Understanding:
/ the presentation  content was presented by dot points and explained by group members without reading the script. The PowerPoint was clear and attractive to audiences.
/ two videos have no background music or sound effect but group members explained it while playing the videos. It's not a bad idea but some time members keep talking about one aspect while the video is going to the next.
/ This presentation showed that the members are well understanding of how business, especially architectural business work.
/ From this presentation, I learnt that  the remuneration is the compensation one recieves in exchange for work or services, or in my own word, the wages I can get if I going to work in a company. The wages can reflect how much we worth in the architecture industry. Although it is hard to measure someone's value in how much he/she get paid, but it is the most direct and common way in nowadays.

Week 10 - Conflict Presentation

Week 10 - Conflict Presentation

Group 1: Aerial Ropeway in a World Heritage Environment ( BaoWen Chew, Shaun Taylor, Jesharelah Yolola, Roschelle Gonzales, Eugelyn Corre & Reina Bautista)

Content:
- define what conflicts in teams are and how conflicts occur
- types of conflicts & solution for conflicts include differences in style, background or gender, differences in leadership, personality clashes, different goals and expectations.
- how to prevent conflicts
- a video demonstrating the possibilities of conflict might occur in a team

Feedback & Understanding:
/ great video shows the possible conflicts that might occur in the group
/ well explained different types of conflict and the way to solve/avoid it
/ this group's presentation help me to understand the conflicts that occurred in my group. The types of conflicts may occur or have occurred in my group were that people were not going to do the work that was assigned to them or didn't finish the work in time or the work is not divided and assigned to every member in the group. If these issues and conflicts did happen, we can solve them or avoid them by setting the time frame and dividing the work equilibrium and therefore let everyone get involve in the project. To resolve the conflicts within a group, I think leader is a very important role who can mange the team and make the project go fluently. Especially assigning the work to each member and make sure everyone finish their works before due day.

Group 2: The Last Suprematist Sculpture ( Benjamin Kalgovas, Molly & Daming Yan)

Content:
- briefly present the factors of conflicts
- solutions for responding to conflicts
- (the PowerPoint is quiet difficult to see and hard to hear what the group members are reading)

Feedback:
/ some members should practice the speech before presentation
/ content should include more useful information

Individual Major Milestone

Individual Major Milestone

As a group member of the Bus Stop of the Future, the main work for me is focus on the fabrication method of the bus stop. As a group, we normally update our own thoughts and ideas to our individual blog and also the Facebook group. And discussed our own ideas and improve the connection method in the Wednesday studio.

Team member roles were to be assigned after Week 2, we've discussed and decided that Jason Lo to be our team leader. And we think that allocating a person to a specific role for the process of the project wouldn't be suitable, and we will work together to develop the project.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Weekly Meeting
After the meeting in Week 2, we were trained to use the laser cut machine by Russell. After the meeting with Elliot and Hank, we've got the idea of what this project expected to reach. And discuss the Time Line, the Gantt Chart and the Project Plan with team leader-Jason Lo and team member-Tony Tang.

// draft of Time line and Gantt Chart:

  • Research
  1. Joinery Method
To start the fabrication method by using CNC machine and laser cut machine, I've done some research of CNC timber panel joinery.

      2. Materiality Research

Personal Note:
Individual Blog:
// see details in individual blog

      3. Bus Stop Dimension

  • Connection Methods
Contributed four connection methods for the fabrication method as reference:

// see the details in the individual blog.
// All the AutoCad file and SketchUp model were provided by our team leader JasonLo.

  • Planning Presentation
In week 5, the presentation we did the Planning Presentation. These are the materials we used for the presentation.

  • Laser Cut
Kerre from the other group came out with this connection. Working with the other members, we did a laser cut model of testing the connection detail of the roof part.

  • Detail Drawing
After the few meeting with Elliot and Hank, we've got some details' hand drawings and all the group members did one of the detail drawing in AutoCad.The one I did was DETAIL IV - Corner Detail Big Box Display - Horizontal Section

  • Documenation
I created a group blog to record all the result we discussed in the studio and the meeting we had with Eliiot and Hank. But since two groups are working together in this stage, we are mainly updating our results on Facebook group.

Group Blog:

5 members group
10 members group
